Why FRPI?
FRPI and Your Doctor
FRPI continues to
introduce the most advanced technology for the early
detection of preventable illnesses.
Our efforts to bring virtual colonoscopy to our patients
follows this same philosophy.
At considerable expense, we
have elected to use the most sophisticated workstation and
3D volume rendering software ever developed—the Viatronix
system created by scientists and physicians at SUNY Stony
Brook. Visit their excellent website at
www.viatronix.com to learn more about their capabilities
and see actual images of the procedure. A study published in
December 2003 in the New England Journal of Medicine, the
premier Internal Medicine journal, concluded that as a
screen for polyps and early colon cancer, virtual
colonoscopy was equivalent to standard colonoscopy.
To appreciate the advantages
of virtual colonoscopy more fully, review the table
comparing traditional colonoscopy with virtual colonography
on our What is Virtual Colonoscopy page.
We sincerely hope that
"virtual colonoscopy" will attract those citizens who have
been hesitant to undergo screening. There are circumstances
when it is preferable for individuals to undergo traditional
colonoscopy (e.g. history of repeated polyps that need to be
excised). Certainly, if polyps of substantial size are
detected by virtual colonoscopy, a follow-up "therapeutic
colonoscopy" to remove the polyp will be necessary by a
gastroenterologist.
Front Range Preventive
Imaging utilizes the same experienced radiologists and
technical protocols as Colorado Heart and Body Imaging, the
second leading provider of virtual colonoscopy in the
Country. Our radiologists have been attending conferences in
this field in order to provide the most up-to-date service
to Colorado citizens.
