-The heartscan's value in individuals at very low risk
is that of a screening test searching for unexpected amounts of plaque
and an opportunity for risk reduction that couldn't have been
anticipated by a clinician. As a "mammogram of the heart", this is a
legitimate use of the EBT scanner as about 10% of such individuals have
an alarming amount of plaque. It is unlikely that insurance will cover
the pure screening uses of these tests.
