A family history of premature coronary disease
exists if a first degree male relative has a coronary event by
age 55 or a female relative by age 65. It is common for us to
discover that among siblings with such a history, some members
seem to not inherit coronary disease and others could have an
alarming amount. This is a great example of the kind of
individual risk assessment that cannot be accomplished by any
physician exam. If one has lots of plaque due to a family
history, it is often important to get special lab tests for
further diagnosis.
